18 members of the Asheville Mushroom Club plus our speaker for the next meeting, Chris Matherly, and his wife met on Saturday, August 8th 2015 at the Guion Farm in DuPont State Recreational Forest for a foray. Mike Hopping organized a car pool from Asheville, and I met one member in Hendersonville. Several members came directly to the foray location. We split into two groups with Charlotte Caplan leading one and the other led by myself. After about two hours, we all met at the pavilion for lunch and to look over what was found. 75 species were identified which was a respectable number considering the lack of rain during the previous weeks. One species was new to the Club – Scleroderma verrucosum, which closely resembles the Common Earth Ball (Scleroderma citrinum) and is probably frequently recorded under that name. Over all, it was another enjoyable day in the woods.
