Fungifest turned out to be a huge success. We had almost 300 visitors, the classes and walks were sold out, and the comments we heard were almost all enthusiastic. And we made a good bit of money for the club!
Our 30-some volunteers made it all happen: starting early on Friday, September 1, some collected, identified, and labeled hundreds of mushrooms for the display (142 species were recorded) while others turned the old Bryson Gym into a mushroom wonderland with a little forest floor on each table, and a row of educational booths on mushroom biology, growing, dyeing, and more. There was just enough room for our vendors to set up their tables too. On Saturday we welcomed the public, checking everyone in, selling our merchandise, keeping it all running smoothly, and taking turns as "The Expert" to answer questions and identify mushrooms brought in by visitors. At the end of the day the clean-up crew miraculously cleared everything away in an hour.
So a big thank you to the people who contributed their creativity and hard work. We all had fun
and if you weren't able to join in this year, we'll be doing it again in 2019!
